I'm trying to buy a bushhog for my 340 r/c and have stumbled into a world of questions- what speed is my PTO? (540rpm?) what size will the 340 handle? (I'm thinking of a 6' hog) what size gearbox should be on the bushhog? Are there any other major considerations I should know about before I buy? Thanks for the help!

Yep, 540 RPM PTO. I run a 6-foot Bush Hog with my 240, does a good job. You'll be able to handle a 6-footer perfectly, but don't go any bigger, or you'll have to mow more often to keep the grass down to a size you can handle.

340 HP is about the same as a Super H..... You should Be O-K with a 6 ft. I've pulled a 6 ft. Brillion over 1000's of acres. I'd look for a 60 HP gearbox and PTO shaft. Yes, Your 340 has a 540 RPM PTO. You didn't say if You want a 3-point or trailing mower. Each has it's advantages. Look for the heaviest weight model, Thickest weight steel, removable side sheets or panels for chopping heavy growth, Slip clutch is prefered in the PTO as opposed to shear pins. If Your looking at trailing models, look for the same things as the 3-point models, plus the ability to mount wheels in different positions along side and behind the mower. A 3-joint driveline is an advantage on a trailing mower too for shorter turns.
