I had a really great weekend as I managed to get my 400 started. It had a badly stuck engine and generally messed up and then it was caught in a tornado. The tornado left the tractor upside down so everything on top of the tractor was smashed. To make a long story short, it took me three years, lots of trips to the salvage yard and some new parts and it has returned to life. I need to fill the transmission with Hy-Tran. How much will it hold? I did learn one thing today about tune up of the 400. If you set the points using a dwell meter it can make a huge difference. My dwell meter was handy so I decided to hook it up and see what the reading would be. By adjusting the points using the dwell meter it really made the tractor perform well. Bob

Yeah, get 15 gal Hy-Tran-TA tractors must use Hy-Tran. I won't quite hold all 15 gal, but it will be close. You also use Hy-Tran in the PTO and hydraulics.

I had a 400 a few years back --- I was told by the dealer to use HY Trans oil.....I dont remember how much ,but I know it was about 15 gal.-----before you put any oil in it ,put about 10 gal. of fuel oil in it and drive it around for about 15 min (no load) to clean out any "goop" and metal in the bottom of the case..... .

Thought the tranny took 80/90 weight gear oil. Hope you replaced all the seals if you plan on using hy-tran.Can see using hy-tran in the hydraulics.

I could look it up, but I will be lazy and not: I believe the tanny will hold 16 gallons. Or about 70 dollars worth of oil.
