Is replacing a narrow front with a wide front a difficult process? Does the steering need to be modified? Is a wide front on a M the same as the wide front on a 400?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

It is not a very tough job, no modification is needed to go from an M to a 400 or vice virsa. The toughest part is securing the tractor as the front end must be removed. No steering modification is necessary if the wide front is made for the tractor.

One modification required on some tractors is drilling 2 holes 1/2" dia. in the bottom of the engine rails to attach the braces. Not a big deal. Dick

There is one worse than that. A few narrow front tractors were not drilled anywhere for wide front. My dad bought a new H around 51-52, front bolster was not drilled and threaded for wide front.

My dad had bought tractor with both front ends, narrow was on tractor at delivery. Dealer fixed this problem, I imagion IH payed. At time dealer said it was not the only H that way. Some were probably never noticed.
