I have a 41 H that i bought a year ago and ive had trasmission problems ever since. We tore it apart the first time and didnt see anything wrong. tore it apart the second time and found the pilot bearing on the end had went bad and the bolt had fell out. We opened it up the third time and it had went out again. fixed it and now is bad again. How can we prevent a bad bearing or get a different kind of bearing. any thaughts at all i would appriciate. thanks

I agree with william.I had the same problem on a M.I took the shaft to a machine shop and had it welded up and turned back down. Also could be one of the rear bearing wore out letting the front of the shaft run at an angle and eating it up that way.

As best I recall, and I think looking in the parts manual supports my recollection, the pilot bearing doesn't have a separate outer race; the outer race is part of the transmission driving shaft. If that was damaged by the original bearing failure it may be that it is eating the new bearings and the shaft (this is the one that passes through the front wall of the transmission) will have to be replaced.
