The rocker arms on my H are cast material. the surface that rides on the valve is not square to the valve . This surface is taperd (from front toward rear of engine). I have never seen a rocker arm before that was not square to the valve stem. I have a rocker shaft with pressed welded steel arms. These arms have inserts on the valve end. The insert looks like the head of a nail where it rides on the valve. The inserts are apparently permanent to the arms. This assembly is for an H as I understand it. Have any of you run into this before? Is this assembly just a later version and still useable in place of my original with cast arms?

A good automotive machine shop can re-dress those rockers to close to the original shape, unless they are so badly worn that there isn't material enough. I think the pressed steel rockers might be from a Super H, don't know for sure. I know that is one difference between my C and Super C. The Super C also uses valve rotators instead of solid spring retainers.

Thank you all for your response. I think I confused the issue.Since I can't submit a photo, here is a rough approximation of what I am trying to describe. Rocker arm to valve contact surface >/ --

Can't say for sure on the H, but on the 113 and 123, the surface where the rocker meets the valve is arced either along the axis of the arm or perpendicular to the length of the head, so that they meet like )|. I don't believe you'd want the surface flat altogether, as you'd just wear a low spot in the face of the rocker that after a while you couldn't get a gauge into to adjust it. I worked on a 123 that was worn so badly that the rocker surface was concave instead of convex and side to side instead of end to end -- makes it easy to see which way the rocker surface wears.
