I gotta show it off some. After three years or so I have it running and did my first "official" core with it which was to blade the driveway. Still have some smaller things to do like put a new seat on it but for now it sure feels good to have it saved from the scrap yard. Hope the link works as I am new to this.

Bob

Great looking tractor!

Went to junior high school in Red Oak, Iowa back in 1965 or so. In the old building that probably ain't there anymore!

FB, Yes, all of the sheet metal was shot along with steering, seat, radiator and many other things. I was lucky enough to have a local salvage yard that I was able to find all the pieces that I needed. I never had a 400 before so it was a challenge to figure out what was needed and how to put it on the tractor. Bob

Good Job Bob!

Which paint did you use? Did the 400 come with the glass jar air cleaner or was it an option in '56?

Say I've got a 300 that could use your attention, interested?

Dick, I just used Van Sickle paint from Orschlen's in Red Oak. They have a hardner available and I used that thinking it may help with oil and fuel stains. I do have a precleaner with a jar but forgot to put it on for the picture. I don't know what was original on the 400 as everything on top of the tractor was stuck into the ground. I have an H and two M's to restore so I think I will be busy for a while. It looks like the salvage yard in Carbon, Ia has several 300s if you are looking for parts.

I too have become a fan of Van Sickle paint. Didn't know that Orschlen's carries it, I've been buying at Bombguars in Council Bluffs. The hardener sure should work at the price they get. I started redoing a New Holland Mod 56 rake. First coat I used TSC' BPS in "New Holland Yellow" way too gold so I used Van Sickle's New Holland for second coat and it looks a lot more like the old New Holland color. I've heard that there are 5 reds and yellows for New Holland depending on the year. That's more than IHC ever used. Dick

Bob: Great looking 400. Don't forget to put a tiny model of a green tractor inside that glass precleaner jar. A friend just gave me a 5020 for that job. G.
