What is the best fluid to put in the lift-all? I will be using only a sickle mower on the hydraulics. What is the easiest way to change the fluid? Take off the bottom line and let it drain. What is the capacity of the lift-all?

Thanks,
Bob G

I use Hy-Tran in my Liftall on my H. It works good for the sickle mowers and cultivators for the trees. If you want to lift something much heavier you will need the 30W non-detergent oil for more pressure. Why non-detergent? Because in a hydralic system detergent oil will foam and that's not a good thing. Hy-Tran will not foam and neither will the non-detergent oil.

There is a drain plug in bottom of liftall. Capacity is 6 quarts 30W non detergent motor oil.

Go to the Research & Info site on the left side of this page and try Articles or Search for " Lift-all" and you will get lots of info.
30 weight non-detergent oil is your best bet for the old systems.

Not to under value manuals but some info that was valid 50-60 years ago isn't correct today. Check the archieves for ND and detergent oil use discussions. Or ask the H & M operators how often they change the transmission oil in their tractors. (Seems to me I read that for heavy use change all 15 gals TWICE a year). A lot of progress has been made in the lubrication products. I consider this forum to be an excellent source of current info. And most out of line comments are corrected PDQ. Dick

Detergent oil can not be used in hyraulic systems, because they foam and I know this for a fact.
