I have been asking for a source for decals for my INTERNATIONAL A-I. One reply questioned if it should'n be I-A instead of A-I. I went to your "Tractor Data Book" and your "Originality Guide FARMALL Letter Series Tractors" and was unable to to find the answer. Decals presently on the tractor are non-existant. Also does the "I" stand for "Industrial" or "International"??? Any other info you can share with us will be appreciated. THANKS

The extra decal you see on page 38 is a dealer sticker (according to the text right below the photo). Your tractor is simply called "International A". There is also an "Inernational Super-A". The I-4 was another tractor all together, kinda like W-6 and W-9. There is also a O-4.

Thanks for all the replies. I am sure of what I have, it is an International model "A". What I am asking is:

Is it refered to as an I-A or an A-I?
Does the "I" indicate Industrial or International?
Was there a decal that indicated I-A or A-I?

On page #38 of Guy's Letter Series book it shows a International Super A, but it looks like there is an additional decal just in front of the Super A. On page #73 it shows an International "I-4" which of course added to my thinking.

Still Wondering????? ????? ?????

Now that I know what you have (although I have never seen one), I think I can answer your questions: It is an "International A", not an "International I-A, or A-I", although the I-4 on page 73 does make me wonder. However, remember the I-4 is a version of the W-4, the W series used the W prefix in the decal to designate that is was a "Standard" tractor. There is no such prefix for the row crop tractors. Except for the engine and a few shared parts, the I-4's and W-4's are completely different from the Farmall H. Not so with the International A and Farmall A. So there probably is no special decal, but I can't prove it. I think the "industrial" version was simply an International A painted whatever color the company wanted, more often than not yellow. Since we don't refer to a Farmall A as a Farmall "F-A", we shouldn't refer to an International A as an "I-A", although that is probably the slang term. The picture indicates that these tractors were also painted red and were used just like the equivalent Farmalls. If I were you, I would try to find an A decal set that replaced "Farmall" with "International". The other decals should be the same.

I agree with CNKS below. The Super A-1 had the C123 engine, mainly just an overbore kit. The International A was usually the industrial version in which case it would have the heavier front axle, foot throttle, and some other changes. The axle and the gas pedal are dead giveaways though.

In case Guy doesn't answer (of course he can correct anything I say) the Super A-1 did not have decals different from those on the Super A. Main difference was the C123 engine. It is A-1, not A-I, the 1 merely designated the bigger engine. The International version is an industrial tractor. Read the fourth paragraph on page 45 of Guy's letter series book.

Read this post before I read the one below. My understanding is if you have an Industrial A it has a square front axle. In that case, try the places listed in the posts below. I don't know if there was a Super A-1 industrial tractor. If that's what you have, then it is probably pretty rare. I don't think an INTERNATIONAL A is refered to is an I-A, but simply "International A".

John, CNKS and Steven, let me clarify one thing. I was not suggesting what was on the actual tractor decals just that supplier had a separate listing for these various models. I assume something in a particular kit is different. Having never seen an SA-1, I could only assume that super A-1 decal read just that much the same as super M and MTA

The super A-1 was more than just an over bore sleeve and piston and water pump. The rad was larger being higher, thus a longer grill. There was also an up grade in hydraulics. The brake bands were changed to same type as on 100,130 and 140 and fast hitch was available. The hitch however will also fit any of the SAs less the lift assist spring. There is no provission for that on SA, unless you change the rockshaft at hydraulic unit.
