Is there a way to install seal beam head lites on the SA? Will they look original.? If you use the original lite frames, can you use the seal beam bulbs?

I assume that the SA has the same light housings as my B. My reflectors were both bad and I was missing a lens, so I decided to go with the small 6V sealed beam lights. I went down to the local hardware store and got some gray weatherstripping that had a "double-D" cross-section with about a 1/4 inch flat strip between the D's. I wrapped one layer around the lens edge of the sealed beam with the adhesive "out", and another layer around that with the adhesive "in". Then I literally stuffed the bulb into the housing and put the ring on. With two layers of weatherstripping you have to compress it quite a bit to stuff it all into the housing, and the inside layer "surrounds" the edge of the bulb to help hold it in. If you look really close, you can tell that it isn't original, but mine have been in for over 3 years and haven't popped out yet. Hope this helps.

If you using a 12V setup, you can get 50W halogen bulbs that will fit the orginal sockets. I found them at Advance Auto and I've seen them in Street Rodder Magazine. I also got new springs and contacts for the orignal reflectors at an auto parts store. Then I polished the reflectors and put new gaskets on the lights. You can also get new terminals for the housings from OEM Tractor Parts (Pilot Knob parts). Very Bright. Daniel.

Where does one buy new gaskets for these lights? I cannot find them anywhere. Do you also know of a reasonable source for lenses?

I'll second that, would like to get new gaskets for the lights I just bought as well. The post above said that OEM tractor parts had the terminals' just wonder if they also have the gaskets, Would also like to URL for OEM from someone if possible pleaseeeee ...:-)

Guys,

I just put new ones on the H that I restored. My Case IH dealer got them for me. They cost me $5.14 each plus tax.

I've experimented with the original (burned out) seal beams on my Super M. Didn't have much luck trying putting modern tractor seal beams (PAR36) lamps in the old enclosures - wouldn't fit without cutting some metal out of the enclosures.

I'm looking for a better solution too...

I have been down that same road. The new PAR36 just don't fit in the old housings. The contacts stick out to far, and the lip where the gasket goes is the wrong thickness. I finally replaced the whole housing on the side that was burned out with a modern 6V tractor lamp. I got the metal type, instead of the more common rubber type, and painted it red. While it is obviously not original, it still looks pretty kewl. It is also a whole lot brighter than the old one on the other side. I will probably replace that one some day as well. They will at least match, and I will be able to see better at night.

I also put one on the back, roughly where the original rear light would go if it was still there. I covered the top half of the sealed beam with red tape that was sold for the purpose of repairing broken tail light lenses. That way I get red light on the rear, plus a little white light in case I want to see what I am doing back there.

Note that, while I am gradually replacing/repairing/painting my Farmall 100 parts, I have to actually use the thing almost daily as well, so the brighter, new lights, while not correct for the tractor, are a lot more useful than the old ones, especially if they are burned out. :-)

I just recently built a new wiring harness for my Father's "A". His original headlights & rear light were long gone, so he bought replacements. I did not take them apart but believe they are sealed beam types. His setup is an all original 6V pos. ground system and has the original Low charge/High charge/Dim/Bright rotary switch. To make the front headlights dim, the switch simply puts a resistor(looks like a coil of wire) in series with the headlights. When I wired this all up & turned the lights on, the resistor became VERY (red) hot & began smoking. I concluded that I had wired everything correctly & that the problem was that the new headlights draw much more current than the originals did (they draw about 2.5 amps each). I rewired the switch so now there is no dim position. These lights are very bright.

Any comments? Did I miss something here? If not, you guys might want to be careful when replacing headlights, you could burn up all the wiring inside the electrical box.

My Father mailed ordered the headlights from one of the vendors that advertises on the web. They came complete with a red metal housing and were advertised as replacement headlight assemblies for "A"s.
