Today I changed the oil and filter in my H. When I was putting the the bottom drain plug(the bigger plug) for the oil filter base back in and I tightened it too much and it put a tiny crack in the base! Now when the tractor is running oil barely seeps through the crack. I could probably leave it alone if I have to but I was wondering if there is some way to fix it like maybe JB Weld? If I was going to replace the base how much would a used one go for? Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks Bob

JB weld would work fine. I have done this for cracked water jacket drain plugs too. In order to do a real good job, put a short pipe in the oil filter base, JB it up real good, and then put a cap on the pipe. Then you won't ever screw up the JB weld when you need to remove it to drain again.

On a separate note, I always find that there is never any oil in the filters on the H-450 series, and that there is no use in taking the plugs out. Just drain crankcase and plop a new filter in.

JB Weld would probably work, but if you send me $10 or something to cover shipping I've got an extra base you can have. Shouldn't be very expensive at a salvage yard either.

Email if you want mine.
