I have been looking at my Super A and thinking that it would be difficult to put on a alternator. I have seen it done many times and in fact Daniel's pic of his had it done. I have done 3 other tractors with alternators. My question is? What goes into making it fit on the Super A? Could someone let me know. Thanks Bill {Antique Acres}

Bill, I used the factory gen mount, with a delco internal reg off 78 chev pu. Take a stick of 3/8 allthread 3inches longer than the gen mount, line the pulleys up and measure the distance left, make a spacer to take up the space in the gen mount. Take off the adjusting bracket and turn it over mounting it back in the same hole, that will align the adjuster with the alt. The adj will be short, I made an extension out of 1/4 x 1 flat bar about 3 in long to make up the difference. Take an old fanbelt , cut it to fit around the pulleys to measure for the lenght of the new blt, get this close cause there is not much clearence for the hood. Hope this helps

Bill -

Looked at a BN fitted with an alternator at a show last weekend . Appeared they used the old generator bracket and fitted the alternator onto it using a piece of threaded rod and some properly spaced nuts for the pivot. Didn't look close enough to see how they tensioned the belt - believe however they cobbed slotted tension arm from a junkyard part.

Check the post: "Close up pic of my Super A (oops, I forgot the link before)" a few lines below this one - nice close up of an alternator installed on a Super A.
