Saw a Farmall 450 LP for sale on the side of the road on my way home after buying another tractor and thought about going back to check it out (I have tractor-itis, you know). What is the s/n designator on the frame plate for factory LP? Is there a similar designator on the head or block? It would be a good find if it was factory LP with the LP (high compression) head. The three or four seconds I saw of it as I passed looked to be factory, but I want to make sure it's not a conversion and the only way I'll be able to tell is through the s/n. Thanks for any info.

I have a 350 Utility LP and it has LP as a suffix on the tractor serial number not on the engine serial number. I used to have a 706 that was the same way. Also my dad's 53 M was converted to LP when it was just a year or so old. It was done by a dealer with a "factory" kit. It has the cold manifolds, high compression pistons, and the tank with the steering shaft running thru it. If they are converted correctly they will give many years of very dependable service. Now on the other hand, my nephew has an H that has a "spud in" on the gas carb and a house regulator. Pretty tricky to get it running right.

On my 806 LP, there is an L after the serial number. And on the diesel there is a D. I am unsure if the 450 will be that way ( a few years older) but I would think it is. I agree, a factory 450 LP would be a find. That would be a powerful little machine. Add a after mkt 3 point, that would be a very very handy tool. Good luck.
