I am rewirering a 52 SM for a friend. When I tried to loosen the water pump belt so I could put a new Alt. belt on the big adjusting nut on the water pump sheave broke in to two pieces. I will need to install a new one. How do I go about this and can I just get the big nut or do I need to get the entire pump assembly? This is the first "RED" tractor I have worked on so I do not have a manuel, (I do for my tractor). Where can I get the part(s) I need? I what to fix it proporly even though this tractor will be sold this winter.

Any and all help is needed, THANKS BUDD

A new sheave can be purchased new at Case IH dealerships or you can log on to www.batescorp.com. They carry parts for just about any IH tractor made before Case bought them.

Replacing it is tricky but can be done. When I replaced mine I took the grill assembly off and loosened the top radiator brackets. Remove the top radiator hose and CAREFULLY lean the radiator forward to make room to work. The rest is cake.

Probably twenty years ago the same happened to me on our MD. I removed the assembly clamped it back together and using nickel or stainles rod welded the halves together. It has not been a problem since. By using the threads for a jig it is still adjustable.

You can just get the big nut at a bone yard. I did the same thing on my M. Replacement cost was around $10. You'll need to take the fan assembly off to do it..it can be taken apart from the left side... not much room, but it can be done... If your water pump is leaking a little, this would be a good time to tighten the packing, or add another packing washer.

I got mine at Paynesville tractor in Minnesota, but many others will have them... heard good things about "Steel wheel ranch" You might try them.. You'll need the casting number just so they can make sure they are sending the right one...Dave
