I have a 1942 Farmall H which I recently rebuilt. It never had an electric start put on so I have to use the hand crank. In warm weather it starts within four cranks, but the last couple of weekends it has been in the 30's here and i can't seem to get it to start unless I pull it with another tractor. I cranked it until I was out of breath and so did my nephew and all we got is a couple of pops. Any suggestions on how I should start this thing in the cold weather? Thanks Bob

Choke wise, I crank 2 or 3 cranks on full choke, then crank with no choke. How fresh is your various ignition components? Might check the points to see if they are clean and set correctly. Your timing might also be off.

I had the mag rebuilt when I did the motor. They put in new points, condensor, remagnetized it, new cap and rotor, wires and plugs. I timed the mag according to manual and you can here it click right when the line on the front pulley lines up with the pointer. I will try what you said about the choke. Thanks Bob
