I have been pullin gas M's for years now and ran across an MD off a local farm and baught it last week. I was wondering how hard it would be to turn the pump up on this tractor, if its even possible and i was wondering if it would hurt it to put a turbo on it, i would like to do some pace pulling with it.

MD's are great for pulling. Drop a 281 motor out of a 450d, turn up the pump, govenor , get some 14.9 38's a good hitch and shell outpull anything gas. The smokes rolls out and it looks sweet. I dont agree with the one guy about the smoke. If you got a good motot it will burn the diesel up and Deecil TO dust or whatever learn how to spell diesel.Hope this helps Bill. The parts you can find are expensive but it is well worth it. Good luck!!

it would probably be ok with a few pounds of boost but i wouldnt do it.you would probably have to pull it in farmstock/turbo or modified/turbo against modern diesels with a lot more boost.

DO NOT DO IT! these tractors are worth more restored and running good. For one thing these start on gas then switch to deisel, the little slide gates in the head will not take the abuse of being turboed. Also parts are hard to come by,and, the heads are known to CRACK most of these tractors are running around with welded up heads, and one more thing the deisel tech.used when this tractor was built was crude and infintesal, find somthing else to pull and restore this one, look for something newer. OK?

I would agree that you would be better off restoring it than trying to use it for pulling. The parts are expensive. You can turn the pump up on it but I'm not sure if you would get the horsepower you need. I haven't seen any with a turbo on it. You would be better off sticking with the gas M's b/c the parts are cheaper. Restore the MD or sell it to someone who will.

Have seen a couple of WD-9's with turbos on them. The MD is a scaled down version of the same engine so it can work. Be prepared to spend a lot of $$$$ compared to building up a gas engine or a more modern (direct start) diesel.

Ok, i wont take the risk of putting a turbo on it but can you turn the pump up on it, I like the look of black smoke pouring out an exhaust.

These tractors smoke without turning up the pump much. I have a 1951 MD with the pump turned up a little bit. It is about right b/c when it is pulling hard the governor kicks in and she smokes real nice but it doesn't smoke much otherwise, unless I try to make it smoke. I like to see the smoke too but I see it out in the field pulling a 3 bottom plow. It handles it pretty easily. My MD is putting out around 50 horse. It has the super MD sleeves and pistons in it.

WELL,that"s a mistake that MOST people make when it comes to desiels no matter what THAY tell you too much smoke is no good, you will LOSE power, you should barly see eny smoke at all, don"t get the idea that you need to see smoke, like the SUPER and PRO stocks do,there useing the extra fuel to COOL the motor also,YOU said you pull gasers right? TOO much gas gives you soot, when over fueled RIGHT?,well too much deisel has the same affect,O and yes the pump can be turned up,but it may not be necessary.IMPROVE AIR INTAKE,air is KEY. D to D
