Source for 300U Safety flow control valve???

My rebuild of the hydraulic system on my 1955 IH 300 utility came to a screeching halt this morning on initial sart-up when my safety and flow control valve popped a snap ring that holds one of the pistons in the casting. (Actually, nothing was screeching -- everything was VERY well oiled down!!!)

On close inspection, my problem is that someone long ago has messed with the casting, leaving almost no groove for the snap ring to snap into. I put it back together with the snap ring in a different position and tried again, but same result.

Does anyone know of a likely source for a good used valve? (The valve for my system is different than for a tractor without power steering. Mine has two fittings for flare nut oil lines coming out the back.)

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Bob, I was hoping maybe someone would step up and say they had a spare, but looks like that ain't happening. I assume you've checked with your dealer and Bermuda Ken at Carter&Grunewald. Next step is check salvage yards, and as a last resort you could probably take it to a machine shop and see if they could cut a deeper groove for a custom circlip, or maybe thread it so you could put in a threaded retainer cap. A good machinist should have an idea of how to make your valve body serviceable again. Good luck to you, and no, you can't have mine. ;o)
