I'm reassemling the disc brakes on a Super H and was wondering if the Balls between the actuating discs are lubricated with anything

I used white lithium grease on the balls, slides and splines on the bull gear shaft. My reasoning was that lithium grease remains a fairly consistant viscosity where it is hot or cold. So far so good on my 52 M. Has anyone else had good experience with white lithium grease?

Dealers usually put neverseez on the balls, ramps and the flat spots in the outer "drum" where the metal plates rub and slide. Sand the balls and sockets first and use a wire brush on the splines of the rockshaft and grease that also. There is nothing permanant with those Ausco brakes but this seems to be the best compromise for most situations. Some never had grease and work fine but that is the exception. Most will need work every year or 2. Ausco brakes were used on IH, Deere and Massey and all had trouble with the company finally going bankrupt.

I just replaced the entire brake system on my Super M, and didn't do anything to the balls. When they heat up, they become a blueish color (don't think of any sick terms now), of course heat from stress and friction of hitting the brakes. There actually isn't any advantage of lubing the balls at all, just with a tractor with disk brakes up through the 60 series they need to be used, otherwise everything seizes up. Good luck with a classic.

I used IH Slip-Plate ,it's a sray on graphite.I was afraid grease would run on a hot day and get on the brakes.

Don't think they were from the factory, I use a thin film of grease on the balls and ramps. Keep's it from rusting if the tractor sit's awhile.
