I need to reline my brake bands for an H. The new liners only have two holes pre-drilled in one end for the rivets. I expected to see all of the holes pre-drilled. Anyone have experienced this? Seeking advice on how to proceed. My service manual is no help on this issue. Thanks in advance.

Bob

When I did mine, I found the new linings plus the metal bands were only a few bucks more than the linings alone, so I just bought the whole item.

They were a tight fit, and I had to shape the bands a bit to get them to fit inside the cover.

You're probably replacing the seals on the shaft also, while it's apart?

I checked on replacing the entire band and the cost at Case/IH would have been double if I had gotten the entire thing. I figured I would learn something in the process and save a little money too. I did replace the seals behind the drums and all the other seals in the transmission and rear end too. It is nice to have a tractor that doesn't make a mess on the floor.

Interesting....at my dealer it was only a few bucks more. $10.00 each as I recall. I am mostly a beginner at this, and sure have appreciated the knowledge that I have gained from this board. Good luck and enjoy the process!....

Bob, I followed the route you did and never got it figured out - still have the unfinished bands, couldn't figure how to do a good job with the tools I had. Bought complete set and am still waiting for someone to explain the process. Good luck Dick

Dick,

I will try to figure out how to get it done. It is a "must situation" for the right hand side of the tractor so I will learn how to do it or mess up the lining trying. Have an idea or two and will take on the task pretty soon. This cooler weather has me feeding the stove with wood to keep warm.
