Cylinder Head Torque Sequence 450 Gas

Anyone have the cyldinder head torque sequence for the 450 gas 281 cu.

Neither my I & T manual or the IH manual I purchased from Jens@les have this information.

You're right, the I and T manual doesn't tell you the torque procedure. I think you'll be okay starting with the middle nuts and work your way to the ends in a back and forth sequence. Start by drawin' 'em down to 75 or 80, then 100 or so then to the final 115-120 ft. lbs. Then after it's been run 10-15 hrs breaking in or whatever I'd go over then again in the same manner. Be sure the threads are clean and put just a little 30 wt. oil on each stud before puttin' the nuts on. This way always worked okay for me.

2 weeks ago there was an article spotlight(on the home page of this ytmag site) on proper use of torque wrenches. The article mentioned the generally accepted rule of thumb for the tightening sequence. See if you can find that article. -aaron
