I am going to buy a farmall 400 on this wednesday, and am hoping to haul it into a box truck. It is seven foot four inches wide. What is the width of a farmall 400 from Back axel to other axel?

Mr. Andreasen: I am starting to believe that you indeed have nothing more to do with tractors than talk about them. Futher you have determined you are going to have discussion on page 1, Farmall forum. This is the 4th time you have asked the width of this tractor and 3 times you have asked how to stabelize hitch for pulling. You have been given answers by some of the best Farmall page has to offer. Frankly, don't you think these guys will soon be finding you just a pain in the butt.

The IH Tractor Data book states the 400 has 84" rear axles. If the wheels/tires are all the way in toward the axle carriers so that you have axle sticking outside the plane of the tires you should have 2 inches of clearance on each side in that box truck. Remember that the 400 claims a 6,000 dry weight.

Don't understand why you keep asking this question. Again, if it has standard rear axles they are 84.5 inches wide. You may have to move the rear wheels in until they are at least even with the rear axles. If the tires are much larger than standard, you may have to reverse the rear wheels, but I think they will be about even with or less than the axle width moved in all the way with the wheels dished out.

You are right on every count CNKS, number of times asked. My 656D with 84.5 axle and 16.9x38 tires even with end of axle, wheel dished out, there was still 2.5" of axle between axle carrier and wheel. There is absolutely only one thing Mr. Andreasen can do now and that is phone the guy to see if tractor has indeed 84.5" axles and that the wheels are not out beyond the axles. The tractor may well have the long axles, and there is only one guy that can answer that.
