Would a D282 bolt into an old IH pikckup that had a 220 or 240 gas engine? Just thought it would neat to have maybe an old R110 with a diesel just to putt around, not to really work hard. It would be a real conversation piece.

A 282 and 301 diesel are the same block as a the IH gas 6 cylinders. The bell housing and fly wheel will bolt right on . A starter may be a problem, as the gas engine used a two bolt starter . You may have to do some custom work to get a big stater on it.

I always thought that would be a neat idea. Why not go a little further and install the Air Research turbo. An 806 engine would be much better. You could hammer on it.

I have a 1206 engine in a 1967 IH 4x4 pickup.Let me just say it runs pretty good. It'll roll one heck of a cloud of black smoke.

IHBRAD, would LOVE to see pictures of the pickup and the installation if possible!

Is the 220 six in a 51 pickup the same pattern as an engine out of a 560?

I would like to see photos of that too. I have been trying to figure out how to stuff a cummins 5.9 in my 1/2 ton dodge... the old gas 360 is wearing out.

It may not be exactly be a bolt in, but should be able to work. I'm not sure what year, but you could get an IH pickup with a factory 301 diesel. Have seen them at Red Power shows. At one time you could get a 354 Perkins in a small IH truck also.

Could you some how bolt a automatic transmission, ford,GM, up to a 282 or 301 or did IH make a auto. trany in there pickups that had a D301? What about the starter and flywheel? Have crossed my mind a time or two about doing this.

IH used to put Nissan 6 cyl diesels in Scouts. I have a 4-53 Detroit Diesel in a 47 KB-5. It is a whole lot better than that Green Diamond flathead.
