Ground on Super C

I'm working on my neighbor's Super C and I'm not familiar with Farmall's. On this tractor does it use positive to ground on the battery?? The wire from the negative terminal of the coil is going to the points and the positive terminal of the coil has the wire from the switch attached to it. The tractor has a new 6 volt battery, the brushes in the starter look good, starter armature is clean, but it turns the engine over very slowly and drains the battery rather quickly. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Smoke, I may be wrong but I think the coil is wired backwards. On a NEG ground the Neg post on a coil goes to the distributor,I think it is POS ground battery, POS coil to the distributor. Yes C and Super C are 6V POS ground

I'm sure the Super C's were positive ground. now unless someone has converted it to positive ground.
6 volt systems were always a bit weak, that is why you see so many tractors converted to 12 Volt.
the starter could be needing new bushings, or just a bit of grease in the bushings might help

Make sure you have 6v battery cables size "O" or at least "1" ----- a lot of cables are replaced with too small wire.....To start with remove the spark plugs, it will crank easier and get the system oiled up..... .

I found that not only do you need 0 or 1 cables at a minimum, make sure they're as short as posible. I ground mine (positive ground) to the steering post as it's right at the battery box. The negative wire I also make as short as possible and make sure all connections are clean and tight. I've had the same problem with 2 Super C's and my present 200. They have to have everything just right, well tuned and then they work good but not great.
Hope this helps.

Ernie is right about the diameter of the cables.. I wanted to add, that originally the ground cable was only about 4 inches long, and it was grounded to the bolt on the inside of the battery box that attaches the box to the steering pedestal..My Case/IH dealer sells cable that is double ought (OO) That and cleanliness has eliminated any starting problems with 6 volt.
