Check the archives on this one... many previous discussions on the differences, but Peabody got the main difference... but some of the last Farmall C's had the 123 engine too..

Pretty much the same tractor, but the Super C had a little bigger bore, therefore more CID, therefore a couple of more HP.(22 vs. 19, or thereabouts). Also, all Super C's had a water pump, while only some of the C's did (or were added later). C production years 1948-51; Super C's from 51-54.

Well, I just looked it up and the Super C was 21 hp (drawbar), while the C was 15. I didn't realize there was that much difference in power.

Is there a difference in hydraulics? do they both have Hyd, or is one of them live??

.. at 1650 RPM. Some very early 1948 C's had a 1540 RPM rating(vs1650 Later) and that was likely those early tests at Nebraska that gave the lower HP at the lower RPM. Now, 50 years later, they are probably all updated to 123 cubes so condition and RPM is likely more important than old HP-Tests. Disk Brakes were a big change. G

Oh, yeah, thanks. I forgot that the C had drum brakes and the Super had disc. They both have the touch control unit, which is a live hydraulic unit (The pump is behind the governor). Remote hydraulics were an option, and necessary for operating the fast hitch system. I sure wish my Super had remote hydraulics.

IMHO, the drum brakes make an updated C worth more than a Super C w/those WORTHLESS disc brakes on it. (My $0.02 worth. jal-SD)

Hey, I'm kinda fond of my disc brakes. She turns on a dime. Oh, yeah, one more thing, the C has the "Farmall" emblem on the front, while the Super has the "IH" logo.

The only C model I have seen with the Farmall front emblem instead of the IH was in Guy Fay's? IH Prototype book. I currently have access to (3) '50s, and (1) '51 tractor that all have IH. I don't know of any '48 or '49 models at the moment. The change from drum to disc brakes was already stated as well as the change to larger sleeves and pistons, but along with the water pump came an engine temp gauge, hyd temp gauge, different thermostat housing, taller radiator, taller grill, and different gas tank (taller mounts). The hyd pump is below the distributor drive, the governor kind of hangs off the front. Not that we're into details or anything ;) ;)

Ok, Ok, you proved you are a bigger C/Super C head than I am. Let's just get picky!!! Hey, I love them all, as I know you do, too! :) All in all, both are great little tractors.

Been a long day... Just having fun, my appologies if I pushed the envelope. If you saw my tractors you would know I'm nowhere close to the 'correct police'! My Super M is a stage 1/2 combo, SH and 504 are close to stock, my B is a rescued fence row reject that is now a 1940/41/46/50/51/53/61 (at least) combo of parts! But I love runnin around my little 'Super B' with live hydraulics and a 3 pnt hitch. Don't start me on the latest cub cadet projects;)

My earliest C has the IH badge and its #584 built. I don't think any but the preproduction models had "Farmall" on front.
