When I rebuilt the motor in my H last spring I put new hoses and coolant in and all summer and fall it didn't leak a drip. Now the past couple days where the temp has gotten down between 10 and 20 degrees, both lower hoses have started leaking. I haven't ran the tractor recently either. I tightened the clamps a little, not sure if it helped yet. my question is: Is this normal when the temp drops or what could be going on?

Bob I work in a service garage here in South West Ontario and last week we had temperatures of -20*C, we had several vehicles come in with overheating, leaks, stuck thermostats and three radiator jobs all in a 24 hour period of the sub temperatures. Cold sub zero temps will test a cooling system just as much as +90*. Incidentally one of those vehicles had rad hose leaks and required only tightening. The responses are correct..metal shrinks in the extreme cold and a leak appears. Good luck from Mike in Exeter Ontario

The metal is SHRINKING when it sees the extreme colds that you are speaking about.

I use a VERY light application of high temp silicone on my hoses to help form a tight seal when I replace them.

Same thing happend to me. I suppose a spot that is just holding becomes weaker when it gets cold.

I would blame it on contraction with the colder weather. If the hoses were new at your rebuild, and you used new clamps, I'd crank them down until the seaping stops.//FB

Sometimes I will put a light film of nonhardening permatex on the inside of the hose which sure helps but they are a bugger to take back off but sure don't have any leaks.
