I have a couple of questions about a Farmall 656 Hydro. Mine has the diesel engine in it. According to all that I have read mine is a farmall model. But on the side pannels it says INTERNATIONAL. Is it still a farmall??? Also on the info I have found it says that a hydro should turn 2300 rpms and a standard tranny should turn 1800. Mine is screaming at 1800 which is marked PTO speed. Is 2300 just the max it will turn or is my gauge not the right one and I am just being protective with the rpms??? Also when it is reved up to around 1600 rpms or above and isnt working it spits and sputters. But once it is working it smoothes out. Injectors??? Pump??? Not a problem??? Thanks

On the 56 series tractors IH went to puting INTERNATIONAL on Farmall and International models. If its a Farmall the serial tag will say F656. An International will say I656

Hydros turn at 2300; gear at 1800; to compensate for hydro power loss. Hydro motors also wear much faster. 540 PTO is 2000 RPM. It should run smoothly when warmed up. Check air and fuel filters. If yours says International it is a utility with 30 inch tires. (or a high utility.)
