Removing the seal below the steering gear box on an H is a chore! Got it out tho and think I will take it down to the train tracks and let the coal train flatten it out just to make me feel like I got the best of it!

After the train is finished flattening it, I suggest dousing the old seal with gas and setting it afire - just to be sure....(!)

Getting the new seal in is no picnic either. I ended up turning down a maple scrap in the lathe to make a suitable seal pusher so I could get the new #@("^% seal properly installed.

I have replaced the same seal on a Super M but don't remember having so much problem getting the old seal out. I also made a seal driver on the wood lathe and it worked very well. I am sure the H has a smaller seal so I will need to turn another seal driving tool. Even tho it is still work it sure is more fun to put new pieces on than to remove the old.

Know how you feel. I have tied rocks to lots of frustrating pieces and parts, then thrown them in the pond!! Gotta relieve that stress somehow.
