I have an M Farmall with a 3pt. My neighbor offered to let me use his disc. It is an 800lb 3pt, 8' wide disc. It will be obvious if it will work or not when I try it out in a month. But has anyone lifted something of this size with an M. I need to prepare virgin land for planting pumpkins. Is there a better implement?
thanks,
aaron

Yes a moldboard plow would be better that way you bury the trash and whatever is on the surface now. Using a disc will also pack down the ground and not give you a good seedbed.

I use a 3 point mounted 8 ft Rhino shredder (weighs 1600 lb) on my SMTA. I put four 100lb weights on the front of the tractor. The tractor also has a wide front. It handles the weight of the shredder ok, but could use a little more weight up front. Also, I have moved 5X6' round bales with a rear mounted 3 point bale spear. It really needs the front weights for this job. I have to rev up the engine for enough hydrolic power to lift both the shredder and big round hay bales.

As far as lifting 800 pounds it will depend on the condition of you hydraulic pump. Another item you will want to add is front end ballast. My rule of thumb is 80% of the weight of what I am lifting behind I add in ballast on the front.

Well ive used our MD with a boom on the 3 point hitch to lift a ford 302 with transmission and the front end came of the ground. Ive lifted a woodstove that weighs around 800 and the front end came up of course the booms holds it away from the tractor so it would make it almost heavier but an MDs front will way mroe than an m so id find something else.

I have a Farmall M, and I pull a 10' transport disc with no problem. However I am using the hydraulic's on the tractor to raise and lower the disc with a cylinder. This seems to work really well. Just another option to think about with the M. I have other tractors I use with the 3 point hook up.
