I have a 300U I got from the family off a farm in Indiana.
It is getting water in number one cylinder after I let it set for awhile. It starts ok, and after the water blows out the exhaust it runs ok.
The engine has a lot of hours on it, but the tractor and TA are very good.
I was going to rebuild it, but a friend has a 350 Farmall that is well used. Tires gone, sheetmetal very bad, TA gone...but the engine is really good. No smoke, starts and runs great.
Will the 350F engine go in the 300U ? I am told there is too much of a difference in the front cover and front mount. They do not look that much different.
This will be a work/hayride tractor. It will be painted nice, but must earn it's keep here in Texas.
Before I go to too much trouble and money I need you guys expert advice.
Thanks in advance.

Looks as though nobody else is going to take a stab at this, so I'll offer my 2 cents. I know absolutely nothing about the differences, if any, between the front covers on the 300U and 350 Farmall engines, but I do know that the basic engines are the same (the C-169 in the 300 series was bored out to become the C-175 in the 350 series). Assuming that there is some difference in the front covers, I'd expect that maybe $10 worth of gaskets would allow you to swap the cover off the 300U engine onto the good engine from the otherwise defunct Farmall 350, and you'd be set. Surely beats the heck out of rebuilding the 300U engine, which you'd have for parts. You'll probably end up swapping the manifold as well as these were different on the standard utility tractors from the ones used on the Farmalls.

While you've got things torn apart, make sure the rear main and clutch are good; major cost of fixing either is spliting the tractor, and you'll already have it in that state. LOL.
