How much cost would a lift pump for a farmall M involve. Pump fits up under tractor and is engine driven right? Can implements still be found for this tractor? Such as cultivators, planters etc. Or would it be cheaper to convert to 3pt. Also without hydraulics or 3pt how do you transport implements unless they are trailer type and you hand raise. This looks like it would be a pain? Thanks

Live pump off the distributor is the best way to go. However, if the M never had a live pump, you would need to change the front cover behind the radiator on the block.

One more thing to add,the pump will only work when the clutch is released.

Like Bill said, the belly pumps are easy to find and install, but they only have one way pressure. They were originally used on filed cultivators, to be able to raise the front and rear independantly. I have seen them sell for about $100 used, i am sure you could buy a rebuilt one over the web also. The farmall lift all manual has a detailed proceedure for installation/removal and a good explanation how the three hydraulic ports work. I pit a Saginaw conversion three point kit on a H this past summer and it was a simple installation that works real good. I use my H for mowing, leveling and lifting. Hooked the dual hyd cylinders on the kit together and ran the return to the drain on the pump. the extra lines work as a extra oil resevour. PS the pump runs on 30 weight oil, no need for a special hydralic oil. Good Luck!

The M Farmall was released from factory with a hydrualic pump as an option. Most M Farmalls came from factory with the hydraulic option. It was a belly mounted pump and fit in between clutch and transmision. If the tractor you are talking about does not have hydraulic sytem, finding an original set up should be easy to find. There is alot of M Farmalls sitting around for parts. Should be able to pick one up without spending great deal of money. However the original hydraulic system was fairly basic and simple. One way pressure and small fluid resorvoir. I think there was like two outlets and one return or something like that. I have one but never use the hydraulics. Installing a 3 point system would still require having some sort of hydraulic system. Implements can probably still be found at reasonably prices but finding them would be harder than trying to buy them. Three point equipment would probably be more expensive to buy versus your non-three point (such as drag equipment). Drag equipment ussually could be put in a road moving position but wasn't really designed to go down blacktop roads.
