I have a '55 400 and on the hyd. on top of each lever under the hood, are nobs with two settings all are pointing the same way. What are they used for?

When these are set one way, your hydraulics are 2 way, they will move the cylinder both ways. When you turn the selector the other way, the hydraulics are one way, the cylinder is powered only one way and the loawered position is a float function. Example. On my 400, I set one to one way and one to 2 way. When I use my blade, I can power it up and down or power it up and let it down by gravity and let it float so when my front wheels go over a bump the blade will not raise or dig in depending which outlett I have it plugged into. Hope this helps. The operators manual explains this really good.
