The resent snow fall we got here in Maryland (central Md.)reminded me of the snow blower my grand father had on the front of a 400d that he had on Sagamore farm, that he ran for Mr.A.G.Vanderbuilt.This snow blower mounted on the front of the tractor ,but was powered off the pto on the rear of the tractor, it had a pto shaft that ran the lenght of the tractor, It was one wicked piece of equipment.I do know that it had shear pins I believe at the gear box at the blower, and it could throw snow quite some distance,it also could throw a cement block once it chewed it up even further.Has any one besides my family ever run across a snow blower like this, merry christmas and a happy new year

In southern Ontario you can find lots of configurations like that, gearbox on the rear PTO and a shaft the lenght of the tractor to the front mounted blower. Ususally you find large tractors set up for this, these lads do custom snow removal or have very large operations. They usually run double augers on quite large blowers..8' or more. Most family farms run rear mounted blowers 6'-8' and most get by with the single auger versions. Most of the folks on my road run single rear mounts. A new blower, 7' single auger goes for about $2000 and a double will go for around $3000 wider blower..more$ ie 8's and 8.5's. What you describe was the latest thing in snow removal back in the days of the 400 series. Mike in Exeter Ontario

I have one. I got my 400 from my father last year who got the blower at an auction in Darwin MN around 10 years ago. It is around 6' wide, single stage and blows to one side only. It moves a lot of snow but not very far 8-). I can post a picture if any one is interested.

I am most likely relacing it with a 3-point, Paulson Loader, WFE and a rear snow blower.

Mike , I had never run across anything like that blower down here, most I have seen have been on rear mounts like you said. Don't know what ever happened too that tractor or blower,it was sold a couple years after my grandfather pasted away in 1969. thanks for your reply ,merry christmas
