The correct engine oil for your 806LP as recomended by CaseIH would be IH Low ash 30W in warmer weather and IH Low ash 10W in winter. The ash build up in the combustion chamber fouls spark plugs and causes a build up of ash on the valve stems and guides and keeps the valves from closing when the valves get hot. There is an IH service bulletin on this problem with pictures dated in the late 1960's or early 1970's.This oil is also recomended for the gasoline engines.

Bill,
I have to agree with Second Opinion. My dad worked at a business that ran several fork lifts inside. They HAD to be run on propane (LP) due to OSHA regs. They converted them several years earlier than OSHA requirements, though, because the oil stayed clean longer and spark plugs lasted forever. LP does not dilute the oil like unburned gasoline, nor does it impart carbon particles to blacken it. I also ran a Ford pickup on propane from 1982-1993. I used a quality gasoline engine oil in it the whole time and when I traded it it had over 140,000 miles on it with no mechanical failures whatsoever. Any quality oil designed for gasoline engines will work perfectly.

My 2¢,
Phil

Don't want to start a quarell but we all have had different experiences. When we ran LP tractors back in fiftys and sixtys we used regular gasoline rated oil and were told one of the advantges of LP was that oil would stay cleaner. Engines almost allways lasted longer than ones on gasoline and oil always looked brighter. Also worked for many years at plant that ran at least 50 LP fork lifts and we used regular gasoline rated 10W 40. Engines were almost allways running fine when rest of lifts wre worn out and believe me they did not run in a friendly enviroment.

I believe that any quality gasoline or diesel oil will be just fine. I would certainkly consider synthetics. Amzoil (www.amzoil.com) lists an oil for use in natural gas engines but then states that it is not for use in automotive engines that have been converted to run on natural gas or LP. They note rust prevention duriong long periods of inactivity, such as might occur with a backup generator, as one of the benefits of their oil.

Used to run a fleet of over 100 LP engines, used only Mobil Pegasus 15W40. Propane engines require slightly different additives due to the combustion contaminants created. If you can't find a good GAS (not gasoline or diesel) oil and you aren't running hard, a quality gasoline oil will work, but change it more frequently. (normal disclaimers etc). Good luck and Merry Christmas.
Dave
