I can't get my 52H Farmall to fire up. The engine cranks but won't kick in. No Spark. What puzzles me is that I had no trouble last time it was used. It was a couple of months ago (just before I had the steering fixed.) When I had the sheet metal off, I did a bit of degreasing and mouse nest removal from around the radiator and valve cover areas. I hosed it down pretty good but it had plenty of time to dry out. I changed the plugs. Checked the distributer cap for cracks and checked the rotor. What am I missing? Could it be the ignition button? I'm presuming it's going to be something simple. . .and cheap(?)

Bob, do you have a distributor or a magneto?

Bob - From how you describe it, there's a good chance the problem is degreaser residue or corrosion on the ignition points. It's happened to me a few times....

Try cleaning the points with solvent (brake parts cleaner, paint thinner or similar). Then shine the contacts by running a small file or some emery cloth through them. Good luck!!

Bob, check the insulation where the bolt goes through the distributor-you know, the one that feeds the power to the points. Sometimes it shorts out there. That bolt originally has a fiber washer to insulate it and if the fiber has deteriorated, it can short out. I found a plastic one from a Japan made car that worked just great when it happened to my '44 H. Took me a l o o o o o o ng time to find the problem. (My $0.02 worth. jal-SD)
