When I went to first look at the 49 C I have now, it smoked a little and had a severe oil leak out the rear main seal. I mean it was just running out the hand hole!!!! I thought with this kind of a leak, the crankcase must be almost dry right??? So I checked the oil level and ended up DRAINING out a gallon and a half of EXTRA oil. The guy asked what I was doing with those drain valves on the side of the pan. What kind of a fool would do this??? After bringing it to the proper level, mysterioulsy the leak and the smoking stopped.

Just a funny story I thought some of youy might appreciate....

I accidently overfilled my H by about 1/4 quart or so. That quarter quart dribbled right out the rear seal just like your C. I was using a bulk container so I didn't have an exact 6 quart measure for the H. It is easy to overfill since the oil does take a few seconds to pour into the pan and dribble out the check valve.

I recently encountered the opposite problem. I bought a Cub that was so low on oil that you could hear the oil pump making a sucking sound.

When I got my Cub home, I checked the transmission fluid and found the previous owner had topped off the tank. Took a bigger bucket than I'd planned on using to drain it.

Sounds like my farm neighbor Ernie. He checks the oil if he happens to think about it on his 2 Ms and my grandpa's badly neglected H.
