I have a H model leaking water from the fan assembly. An uncle said to use heavy duty grease to stop the leak, shoot it in using the grease zert on the fan assembly. Anyone know anything about this?
Thanks for the help.

I agree with Red and slappy. Greasing probably won't even help and in fact will probably just make bigger mess. I had same trouble with my H. It just happened to be on the same day I was going to put it in the parade. Of course I didn't have any of the packing that I needed so I had a raw hide shoe string that I raped around the shaft a couple times and shoved it in and tightened up the nut. I made the parade, and several years later now, the thing still doesn't leak.

Grease zerks just grease the hub bearings. After you drain the coolant, you will have to remove the fan blades. You will find a large nut that you unscrew. There is packing under that nut. You can probably add 1 layer of new packing material and replace the nut and fan blades and stop your leaking. Tighten the nut down tight. You might have to add 2 layers or dig out the old and replace.

Brian,

I wouldn't shoot greese into it if I were you. First, I don't think it will help your problem, and second, it may force greese into the water jacket where it could stop up your radiator. You probably just need to put some more packing around the water pump shaft. It's possible that you may have enough packing already, in which case a few turns on the big nut on the front of the fan assembly will cure your leak. If you need packing, it's an easy job and IH still sells the part.
