won't start

I cant get my Super C to start and wonder if anyone can help. Symptoms are that it turns over but won't fire. Gas drips out at a steady rate from the bottom of the carb after just a few turns of the engine. Cold weather has set in so I'm guessing that has something to do with it.

Related question...the carb is a Zenith Stromberg that has a shut off valve of some sort at the front end (nearest the radiator). What is that for and should it be open or closed?

Thanks for any help.

what you are syaing to me is that the float is stuck open and is flooding the carb out, tap on the side of the bowel with a hammer and see if the dripping stops , wait for a while and try to start it. if it still leaks then you have to rebuild the carb , about $7.dollars and very easy to do.that would take care of your first problem,if it don't start then lets checkout the spark, the smiple rule to these puppies is give me air, give fuel , give me fire , that is what I desire. the valve you say that is to the frount of the tractor is a drain yalve for the carb for winter shut down so it don't frezze, that should be closed don't mess with the scerw on top of the carb near the thorat

Just acquired a Super C this last weekend so I know first hand how to trouble shoot this problem. First, remove the spark plug wire from the No.1 cylinder and hold touching engine. Wear heavy leather gloves when doing this test. You should see a spark in the electrod of the spark plug. Repeat with each cylinder. This will tell you if you have a bad wire or other distributor/magneto related problem.

Second, you may need to clean out your carberator if you have never done so before. One of the fuel ports or jet may be clogged. Over time sediment and corrosion does build up in these Zenith carbs and if water condensation occurs then you will also have rust in them.

Hope this helps, good luck.

When mine did that this summer turned out to be the coil in the magneto. It would be worth checking to see if you had any spark at the plugs and the coil be it dist or magneto.

It sounds like ignition trouble to me.Do you have a distributor or a mag on your tractor? Some of the checks are a little different for a mag so see if you have spark and let me know.

The adjust ment in front of the carb is the high speed mixture. If it ran before,it should not be a problem, especially considering gas is running out of the carb when you try to start.Gas dripping from the carb as you describe is common on start. If your C is like my A it is almost impossible to flood!

Sounds like your float valve in the carburator is stuck open.
