I have converted my 350 from 6 to 12 volts. Which wires do I need to switch on the voltage gauge? I also have a short somewhere. Without these wires being moved would they cause that or is it somewhere else.

Are you changing to an alternator? If so, you need to reverse the battery leads. All alternators must have a negative ground. As for a voltmeter, you can tie all the wires from both terminals of the ammeter to the input of the voltmeter. If using the old ammeter, though, you can leave it the way it is, though it will read backwards. No harm done here if you know that this is normal - or you can reverse all wires on the ammeter and it will read normally. Personally, a voltmeter is a better way to go.

Adam, punch this link. It will take you to Bob M's excellent 6v-to-12v conversion article. It was written for the M/Super M, but it should work for your 350:

i am assumiong you went from 6 volt positive ground to 12 volt negative ground. lets also assume you have a amp meater and not a volt meter. in that case the amp meter will read backward. you need to swtich all the wires from one terminal to the other and vice versa.---in the end the alternator power cable should go to one side of the amp meter, and the other side goes to the battery. the lights and accessories wire should be on the alternator side so the gague will read a draw when the lights are on. the starter should be on the other side between the battery and ampmeter. you will not see a drop (much) on the gauge when the starter is cranking.
