'53 Super A front tire question

My buddy across the road is restoring a '53 Super A. This is his first tractor restoration (he's done several Ford Model A cars) and is quite fussy about originality.

Anyway he wants to buy new front tires to match original factory equipment. Question is what were the original front tire sizes? Also for 3-rib fronts, were the outer ribs on the original tires solid, or were they serrated?

Thanks! ...Bob M

Interesting question!
I leafed thru my service manual, my user manual and some Farmall books with archival photos and to my surprise I found both rib types (continuous and serrated) in roughly equal numbers.
My Super A manual says: "...rims for 4.00 - 15 or 5.00 -15 4-ply tractor type tires..."

Bob
While at a tractor show last fall I saw a Super A,that if I remember right, had 4.00 x 15's on the front & the outside ribs were serrated. Now if thats actually the way it was in 53 I'm not sure. I do know that Miller tire offers Firestone guide grip "old style" front tires & they say their the original look from the late 30's through the 50's. Hope this helps. Gordon

Thanks for the replies guys! Your observations are same as ours: Both solid and serrated outer rib tires seem to show up in approx equal numbers in photos/literature from the early 50's. Guess I'll assume both styles can be considered "correct" for this era tractor. ...Bob M
