Completed a 12volt conversion on a Super W6. All seems to work fine, except that the small light used in the conversion won't go out. What's wrong?

Bill - Is the alternator charging the battery? (Charging is indicated by an ammeter reading to the right of center, or by a voltmeter reading across the battery terminals of 13 volts or higher with the motor running).

Yes, It appears to be charging. The needle on the ammeter deflects slightly to the + side.

Did you tie the other end of the lamp to ground, or to the switched side of your ignition switch? With battery ignition, you tie the end to the switched side of the ignition switch. If you have a magnito, you need to put in a separate switch between the battery and the lamp. If the other side of the lamp is tied to pin 1 (the pin between the BAT and the outside pin), the lamp should go out when the alternator is charging, since the voltages will be equal on both sides.

Recheck your wiring. Since the alternator seems to be working, I don't think it is the culprit.

Think of that light as though it was a idiot light on your car dash at idle. It should go out when you accelerate. Could be that your alternator is not getting "Excited" enough to turn off the light. Might want to try a smaller diameter pulley on the alternator. I'd do that if it doesn't go out after opening up the throttle to at least 1/2.

Thanks for the responses. I'm pretty sure the wiring is correct. Used the Bob M diagram for the Super M, one wire to the ignition switch and one to the #1 terminal on the alt. Think I'll get a voltometer and double check. Thanks again.
