I'm in the process of changing the TA clutch and have run into some difficulty. After removing the PTO and splitting the tractor I'm having a problem with driving the PTO drive shaft back far enough to remove the PTO gear. The gear separated with out difficulty from the front PTO drive shaft using 2 wood blocks.

Before I start with the sledge - what else could be holding this in place?

Was this shaft pressed on the bearing from the factory and just needs to be beat back or is their a retainer that needs to be removed that the book I have failed to note.

I really don't want to do any damage that I'll have to fix.

Thanks

Never worked on one put it should be same as 656, first should not have had to remove PTO to change TA clutch. After spliting there should be three hex head cap screws and the to splined input shafts should come out of TA housing forward then take off top cover of the TA and you should be able to change the TA clutch. The PTO drive should 2 pearings on it, don't have to take them off.

On my tractor the bearing won't clear the PTO gear - only 1/4 of an inch or so.

Did you take the splined input shafts completely out or just part way,
