We're having problems removing the fan assembly on my old H model. It's been spraying water from the fan assembly. I had heard that I need to replace the packing in the fan assembly but can't get the fan blades off to look behind to replace the seal. There's something that sits on 2 studs with springs attached to the fan and we can't get that off. Any ideas??
Thanks.

Bryan,There's a tapered bolt called a driver pin that you can see goes crossways near the end of the center shaft.Remove that pin and the driver assembly will lift off.Behind that assembly there's a large brass packing nut(right in the center of the fan) If packing is pretty good just tightening the packing nut stops the leak.If not remove the packing nut, replace the packing and then reinstall the packing nut,the driver assembly and the driver pin.The pin is tapered and fits a slot on the shaft and will only go one way.Sure hope this helps,Chris.

buy tightening the nut will this take the woble out of the fan or do you need to replace the bearings.

Chris, thanks for the reply. We finally got the driver pin out, had to soak it in WD-40 for awhile and give it a pretty good whack with a hammer. The packing was completly gone. We also decided since we was so far along to completly remove the water pump, good thing we did because we found what looked like a wad of old solder rattling around in the housing, how it got there, we have no idea. We got most of the tractor put back together before dark and will finish up tomorrow and see if it cured the problem. Thanks for the help!
