How do you get the rubber bushings in on a Farmall C seat?

On a typical Farmall C seat there are two rubber bushings that hold the main seat arm to the plate that bolts to the tool box. These rubber bushings allow the seat to move up and down but yet keep it from moving side to side. I have bought two new ones (one for each side) but am having trouble getting them in equally. There is a rod with threads in both ends that fits inside these bushings. Bolts go into this rod from both sides. Any helpful hints are appreciated. Thanks

I haven't got around to that on our C yet, but soaping them up to lubricate should help as already suggested, our heating them will make them softer and more pliable if that would help. I would recommend dropping them in real hot water for a bit. Good luck, Fireman

I've rebushed a couple of these seats. When you find the easy way to do it let me know! Lot's of sweat, prying and a few choice words that should not be said go with this job. I wonder what tool IH had to get those in at the factory??

I don't have any helpful hints, it will go together, just takes a while. They do not need to be absolutely even, and will probably be a little off no matter how hard you try. You might try soapy water.
