Presently own a 424 utility with a c-146 gas engine, the oil light comes on when at idle, which has been happening for some time, but would go out when engine RPM was increased. Last nite the oil light would come on even when engine was at 2000 rpm, but would not stay on. Also the light would be real bright then would get dim, with out any change in engine rpm. Is this a quirk with this particular tractor? Maybe an oil pump? The motor runs very well, with no loud noises, and has never used any oil. I have 10-30 oil in the motor right now. Thanks for any help in advance. Big City Bob

Our 424 did that also. The sending unit can get dirty, so check for clean connections. Those units do go bad ,as ours did.Be sure to get that pressure checked as you may have bearing problems.Good little tractor, those. Take care of it.

I wouldn't be running it like that untill you are sure of the oil pressure.Check it with a mechancal gauge to make sure. You can make one up using a 100 lb. gauge, a short flex hose for a grease gun and one brass cupling which can all be purchased at you local auto/tractor parts store Looking at the easy things first I would bet that it is the sending unit

I would plumb a mechanical guage in(temp or permanently) and see what you actually have for press. Either you have a sender going bad or real troubles.
