I am interested in buying a Farmall M. It was used last summer and it won't start. Can't get any fire from the Magneto but my question is how could it have run when the fireing order on the mag is 3421
all the Hs and Ms I have worked on the order was 1342. Was something pt togather wrong at one time?
Thanks

If tractor is timed right and runs good with the 3421 wiring, then somebody has simply put the mag on timed to the number 3 cylinder instead of the number 1 cylinder. Or somebody could of been working on it and didn't put the wires back on correctly, in this case the tractor will not run. The correct firing order on an M that is put together right is 1342. If mag is not putting out any spark at all, then something is wrong with the mag itself. That will have to be fixed to get tractor to run. Somebody could of had mag off to work on it, and when they put it back on tractor (probably unfixed since it don't have spark) they might of just put mag on not worrying about timing. That could be another senario. Your first step should be to get mag to fire, and then you might want to go ahead and put it on right and time it correctly. That would probably just as easy then trying to figure out what somebody did before you, and it would be put together correctly when you are done.

Its still firing when its suppose to fire.Whats happened is that someone has put the mag on wrong or the the mag itself is out of time.If you attempt to rewire the plug wirs correctly it will be out of time to the engine as well.Simply set the engine to #1 and look as to where the rotor os and that will be number one on your mag.

I had an H once think Mag was put on wrong. The firing order was excact opposite from what it was suppose to be. 1342 is right. It still ran but real rough. That could be your problem. Good luck, Don

I don't know much about mags, but as long as the wires are in the right places it shouldn't matter. The firing order is still the same, but you might have to time it off #3.
