I'm a new owner of a Super C. My wife worked it about one hour hipping up rows. When she cut it off, a little fluid was seeping from the head of the hydro unit just in front of the battery,I noticed some smoke. The unit and the lines to the hydro pump were too hot to touch. The cultivators "hicup" when raised. I understand that I need to go into the unit and replace O rings ect..to cure the hicup but is the unit supposed to get this hot? I don't want to work it anymore till I find out. I don't have a temp guage for hydro unit. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

Be careful. Running that hydro system hot like that will eat O rings and cause the unit to lose fluid into the oil pan through the pump. Loss of fluid can ruin the pump.

The touch control units frequently get out of adjustment in such a way that when the rockshaft arms are all the way forward or back, the unit continues to run pressure even though the cylinders are at the end of the travel. You can tell when this happens because the tractor engine will have that sound of being loaded. Move the control levers slightly so the engine unloads. If the unit runs continuosly on high pressure, it will quickly overheat.

Hydraulic systems get hot when they are being used. If they overheat it is usually because the system is staying on high pressure because the auxillary valve levers are not returning to neutral or the relief valve is sticking.
