I am converting form posative six to twelve, do i even need the voltage regulator anymore? Also, some one said that the volts come from the key to the voltage regulator, or is it from the voltage regulator to the key?

Bryce,

The answer to your question depends on whether or not the alternator you decided to put on (if you decide to use an alternator) has an internal regulator. The tutorials on converting to 12 volts that you'll find on ytmag.com make reference to a Delco 10SI, and it has an internal regulator. I converted a 50 C a few months ago, using this tutorial:

I also have a 55 400D, although mine is already 12 volts...I suppose I'm a bit surprised that yours is 6...I guess the 12v must have been an option.

In any case, feel free to email me for more details. Since I just did one, I think I've still got everything straight in my head.

David, the key here is that you have a diesel. They were all 12 volts. The gas Farmalls were 6 v

Geoff,

Aha...right. Yep...that makes perfect sense, and now that you say it, I seem to remember reading that somewhere too. That sound you hear is the 2x4 hitting me across the forehead. ;-)

Thanks for the clarification.

Bryce - Are you using a 12 volt generator or converting to an alternator??
