After splitting my Super A, replacing all the bearings in the axles,differential/ transmission, as well as all oil seals and the countershaft{ it had 8 chipped teeth } re-assembling I still have the growl, whine that I started to repair in the first place. This happens when I'm in gear and is a terrible sound. Also replaced the brakes. What else is there???It is loudest off the left side or at least that's where I can hear it the most.

My '49 Super A makes quite a racket - in reverse, it really sounds bad. I gave up on worrying about
it, unless and until it makes a much worse sound, or a rhythmic one that sounds like missing gear teeth, etc. It's done this ever since I got it, and figure it's just a sound that they make.

Every "A" I have ever driven whines more than any other IHC tractor I have driven. (Probably carries over to the Super "A"s as well) I think it's a somewhat natural sound and probably nothing to be overly concerned about.

Bronco, I have a similar problem under similar circumstances. I am reasonable convinced that the problem is worn gears. The hard facing of the gears is worn away in mine and thus the noise.

I wish I could help, mine does the same thing. I assumed it was in the trans as it only makes noise when its in gear. Since you have replaced the bearings I don't know what else it could be. Perhaps something is not shimmed correctly. let me know if you figure it out.
