I bought a 560 that had a wide frondend off a 656. It's an IH, and I know it isn't an original off of the 560 because the shafts going up and down that the turning rotates on are keyed and not splined. My question is does anyone know if this frontend is the same off an 826 or 856? I know it would make sense for the bigger tractors to have a heavier frontend, but they look exactly the same. Thanks for any help you guys and gals can give me.

These wide fronts from Supers through to 56 series are basically the same. I had a 300, 560 and 656, all bought new. 560 and 656 came new with wide front. 300 had a wide front from a Super H as it came new with narrow front. All those front ends had the keyed spindle top. 656 had a longer controll arm at center which gave it qiucker and sharper turning radius.

On IH front ends splined spindles did not come until 66 series tractors.

Yes Super H had just as heavy front end as 856. Many items back then were over engineered. Something the younger generation will never experience. Take the old one lane overhead suspension bridges. Old timers took extra precaution, when crossing with steam traction engines. They put steel decks on those bridges, and 30-40 ton trucks used them and abused them. Usually when they went down with loaded truck, something on truck, over dimension damaged suspension and it was not the weight.

first off all i like your handle.
I just went thru this deal and i can say for sure that what your talking about is compatible with a 806,and I cant imagine a 856 being different I just put one on a 460 and its quite a better machine
happy trails

Thanks for the info. I have red hair so that is the real reason behind my name, but it doesn't hurt that I like farmalls and IH's. I hope I didn't take anybody's name. If I did I'm sorry.

Hey big red 1, Walnut is 85 mi West of D. Moines, right on 80. Pop., @ 1000. The main street had died of the usual circumstances until about 10 yrs ago and now we have about 40 antique shops. Still no parts in town, and the independant farm supply closed it's doors the first if the year.
