I recently brought an H back to life and rebuilt the carb in the process to the settings that the intructions had. When I finally got it running it was blowing black smoke like a diesel. I messed with all 3 adjustments on the carb til I got a clear smoke from the exhaust, but it might be too lean now. I haven't checked the spark plugs yet, just wanted to know if ya'll had any suggestions on the procedure to a correct setting. Thanks Brad TX

1. With the engine at operating temperature, open the throttle and run at top rpm's, (1650) now adjust the high speed mixture screw out until the engine begins to smoke (too rich). Turn the high speed mixture screw back in until the engine just begins to loose rpm's (too lean).
Richen the mixture about 3/4 turn for most light power jobs. You may need more fuel (richer) if pulling heavy loads for long periods of time.
2. Idle the engine down & adjust the idle rpm screw for correct speed (450-500 no load).
3. Adjust the idle mixture screw for cleanest idle (lean to rich and then about 1/2 way in between or just a bit on the rich side).
4. Reset idle rpm.
You may want to go through the steps 2 or 3 times to get everything right.
Good luck.
