Does anyone know what it wood take to put a smallblock chevy engine in a farmall M frame? I want to leave the tractor as it is. I'am wondering about gear ratios and mounting the engine to the bellhousing of the tractor. Thank You

This past summer I saw quite a few M's with Big Block chevy's in them and the bolted up to the stock plate. Granted with a little work and time. They all said it was easy.

I had some friends who put a small block with chevy turbo 350 transmission. They added either 16 or 18 inches to the frame rails and ran a short drive shaft to the final drive on the tractor. She ran 20.8 tires and they pulled it in 2nd gear on the auto and 5th gear on the tractor transmission. No one could belive a tractor going down the track pulling a sled and changing gears!! For a lack of competition they pulled the motor out and put it in a 2wd pulling truck!! To answer your question, I am sure someone in a good mackine shop could make an adapter to bolt straight up to the bell housing. I am not sure if the gears in the rear end of the tractor would hold up to the small block without running it through another transmission. Try it!!
